B&W (or Bowers & Wilkins) has released a new Music app for its Formation platform. With clearly more streaming services in it.
B&W’s new Music app is intended for the manufacturer’s wireless Formation platform. What is striking about the new software – available for both Android and iOS – is the support of quite a few streaming services.
To start with, these include Tidal, Qobuz SoundCloud and TuneIn. B&W says it plans to add more of these types of music services in the coming months. Via Qobuz it is also possible to stream in hi-res, up to a quality of 24 bit / 96 kHz.
One user interface
The B&W Music app collects content from the available music services and makes them available via one easy-to-use interface.
Further features include personalized recommendations and a playlist curated by B&W. Initially, the new app will run alongside the old B&W Home app. Later this year everything should be merged into Music.
The Formation platform is fully managed by B&W, which has recently added considerable manpower to expand and develop it further. There is also the idea of integrating support for custom installation systems such as Control4.
In short, there are plenty of interesting developments in this area on the horizon.
