During Dutch Media Week – this year from September 30 to October 10 – Sound Summit emphasizes the importance of applied sound, or sound that brings anything and everything to life.
New this year during Dutch Media Week: the Sound Summit. Sound brings productions such as television programs, podcasts, games, commercials and documentaries to life. How do you make sure you have the right sound? What are the latest innovations and how do you start with sound design?
On Wednesday, October 6, with numerous experts, the importance of well applied sound will be discussed during this event. Music activates our brain. It is one of the most powerful tools for evoking emotions’, says Rebecca Schaefer, neuropsychologist at Leiden University. Think of the swelling music in an exciting movie, but also the sound of cheering supporters during soccer on television. Sound creates perception and atmosphere.
Sound in the mix
From producers and programmers to sound designers, composers and technicians: the Sound Summit brings together everyone involved with applied sound. In addition, young sound designers are given the opportunity to show their work and there are various workshops such as ‘recording in unusual locations’, ‘the effect of a good sound logo’ and ‘8D sound design’. Day chairman Astrid de Jong has been making radio for 25 years and won the Night Watch Award 2021. ‘I and my ears are looking forward to the Sound Summit immensely. I can genuinely enjoy a beautiful mix, surprising effects or special sound montages.’
