Philips unveils Fidelio wireless AV platform

Philips

Philips offers a look at three new models for their Fidelio AV platform arriving later this year.

Philips Sound previews three new models that’ll join the new Fidelio-focused AV platform in the second half of 2022: ‘With the new premium soundbar, subwoofer and satellite speaker, Philips Sound enables multi-room, multi-channel and high-quality audio streaming, including the premium performance, design and materials that the Fidelio range stands for. The Philips Fidelio FB1, Fidelio FW1 and the Fidelio FS1 will be available from May 2022’.

DTS Play-Fi

Based on patented DTS Play-Fi technology, the Philips Fidelio wireless AV system uses a premium, app-driven, multi-room audio platform. This, according to the manufacturer, provides easy and seamless connection and streaming between compatible TVs, mobile devices, soundbars and speakers located throughout the home.

Intelligent ecosystem

The new Philips Fidelio range also works within an ‘intelligent’ ecosystem, where each speaker can ‘detect’ when it is connected to another Fidelio product. For example, it can connect to the Philips FidelioFB1 soundbar, the Philips Fidelio FW1 subwoofer and add a Philips Fidelio FS1 speaker for use as a rear channel. A second Philips Fidelio FS1 speaker can also be added to create a stereo effect.

Philips Fidelio FB1 soundbar

The Philips Fidelio FB1 is a discrete, sleek 7.1.2 soundbar designed specifically to complement the latest frameless, minimalist high-end TVs and features 15 drivers and 310 W (RMS) of power to ensure a large, room-filling sound performance. Philips: ‘The soundbar is divided into independent enclosures for the LCR sections to minimize crosstalk and ensure excellent resolution/clarity. Each of the LCR channels also features a pair of midrange drivers mounted on either side of a tweeter in a classic D’Appolito arrangement that provide better integration of the mid and high ranges. Two side-mounted drivers are implemented, one at each end of the bar to carry the sound further into the room and create a convincing surround sound effect. Further expansion is provided by two dedicated Dolby Atmos drivers mounted on top of the soundbar on either side of a dedicated bass enclosure with two subwoofers’. The manufacturer continues: ‘The premium finish that the Philips Fidelio range is known for is reflected in a Muirhead leather wrap around the soundbar’s beveled edge and an acoustically transparent metal mesh – all designed to perfectly complement Philips’ premium TV models’. The Fidelio FB1 soundbar will be available from May 2022 with a suggested retail price of €799.99.

The Philips Fidelio FW1 Wireless Subwoofer

The Philips Fidelio FW1 wireless subwoofer includes a large downfiring 8-inch woofer, complemented by two side-mounted, large passive radiators that work ‘back-to-back’. The subwoofer also features a powerful 200 W (RMS) amplifier which – according to the manufacturer – ‘provides deep, fast bass, ideal for both movies and music. With a Muirhead leather and wood finish and a brushed aluminum top, the FW1 has a premium, distinctive look. The Fidelio FW1 subwoofer will be available from May 2022 with a suggested retail price of €499.99.

The Fidelio FS1 wireless speaker

The Fidelio FS1 wireless speaker (pictured at the top) has a versatile, flexible design that is ideal for use as a single unit, as a stereo pair, or as a satellite speaker in a 7.1.4 system combined with the FB1 and FW1. An advanced specification includes a forward-facing tweeter, an angled upward-facing mid-range unit and a downward-facing woofer in its own dedicated section of the enclosure. Bass performance is further enhanced by the addition of two passive radiators. Power output is a generous 60 W (RMS) making the FS1 perform well in medium to larger sized rooms.

Premium design

‘The Fidelio FS1 looks stunning, both on its own, but also as part of a Fidelio AV system. The speaker shares the same premium European design with a mix of Muirhead leather and metal for a high-quality finish rarely found in this market segment. And for a uniquely immersive AV experience, the FS1 also includes built-in LED lights designed to work with and synchronize with Philips Ambilight TVs, extending the Ambilight effect throughout the room,” according to Philips Sound. The Fidelio FS1 speaker will be available from June 2022 with a suggested retail price of €299.99.
