Sonos inadvertently gives away speakers


In the US, Sonos inadvertently “gave away” speakers to customers, thanks to a bodged system update of its ordering system.

That updates can have unpleasant side effects now and then, is something Sonos experienced the hard way in the US. After an update of their order system there, a lot of orders were executed multiple times. As a result, customers did not receive one ordered speaker, but (sometimes much) more. The nice thing is that American law states, that unsolicited items sent by a company may be kept without payment. Because the manufacturers’ ordering system also sent invoices for the unordered speakers, there may now even legal consequences. It seems that Sonos is depending on the goodwill of its customers when it comes to receiving back the abundance of speakers sent.
