The Edifier Stax Spirit S3 is a magnetostatic headphone, building on the foundations of the illustrious range of ‘late’ Stax.
Edifier is a Chinese manufacturer that regularly releases very nice hi-fi stuff. The arrival of the Stax Spirit S3 fits right in with that. And in this case it’s also quite explainable that precisely Edifier comes with headphones out of a more high-end corner. The originally Japanese Stax – well known for its magnetostatic headphones – the first model of which appeared under that brand name as early as 1960 – was acquired by Edifier in 2012. And the Chinese appear eager to pick up the towel. The Stax Spirit S3 features planar magnetostats measuring 89 x 70 mm). These were developed in collaboration with Audeze.
