Synology presents wifi 6-router WRX560

Synology has announced the launch of the WRX560, a comprehensive Wi-Fi 6 router for home use.

With the WRX560, Synology expands its router line with a powerful Wi-Fi 6 router, which they say is designed to provide busy households with fast and secure Internet: ‘With powerful hardware and the intuitive and comprehensive operating system Synology Router Manager (SRM), the WRX560 has what it takes to overcome challenges in home networking. “We are very excited about the addition of the WRX560 to our lineup,” said Mike Chen, Product Manager for Synology Routers. “The WRX560 boasts slightly fewer features than the RT6600ax, our flagship product, but nonetheless delivers powerful performance and advanced networking functionality to a wider audience.

Performance-oriented design

‘The WRX560 features a high-quality interior design to ensure optimal performance for busy households and networking enthusiasts alike. Based on Wi-Fi 6 technology, the WRX560 delivers high Wi-Fi speeds of 3,000 Mbps(1) in total, allowing users to count on fast downloads and buffer-free streaming. With the Quad-core 1.4 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM memory, the WRX560 can effortlessly handle up to 150 connected devices’, the manufacturer said.

Unlike most consumer routers, the WRX560 has a 2.5 GbE WAN/LAN port to support high-performance devices or super-fast Internet subscriptions. In addition, the device is compatible with the newly approved 5.9 GHz spectrum, allowing access to an interference-free band for potentially faster connection speeds(2) or wireless dedicated backhaul.

Stable Internet throughout the home

The WRX560 has features that make wireless connections better for faster and more stable Internet, according to the manufacturer. This router can be integrated into a mesh configuration with other Synology routers for fast and stable Internet throughout the home under one WiFi network name.(3) Users with existing Synology routers can make the most of their device by using it as an additional Wi-Fi access point.

Built for family-friendly experiences

The WRX560 offers comprehensive parental controls and Internet filtering through the Safe Access package, designed to make the Internet safer. Parents can set an Internet quota or limit Internet use to certain times for each of their children’s devices, including laptops, smartphones, tablets and game consoles.

Web filters

Prevent children from accessing adult websites, violent websites, gaming sites and social networks, and filter out explicit search results. Users can apply filters flexibly, such as limiting social media use during hours when homework is due.

Track user activity

Safe Access provides insight into children’s activities on the Internet, such as the amount of time they spend on the Internet each day and whether they have attempted to visit inappropriate websites.

Advanced networking features in Synology Router Manager

Known for its popularity among router enthusiasts, SRM features a host of advanced networking capabilities, including VPN server hosting, detailed control over the bandwidth usage of devices on the network and VLAN network segmentation.

VPN Plus

‘VPN Plus is ideal for telecommuters and office use. It provides the ability to quickly establish secure connections to internal networks behind the router, connect multiple locations via secure IPsec tunnels to share resources between different networks and access desktop software anywhere with the ‘remote desktop’ functionality’, the manufacturer adds.

Traffic management

The WRX560 features built-in traffic management tools that give users precise control and visibility into their network traffic. With the ability to access detailed information about application and device traffic and apply traffic shaping and quality of service policies, users can optimize their network based on their specific needs.

VLAN network segmentation

The VLAN network segmentation feature allows users to create VLANs and set custom firewall rules, quality-of-service policies and access policies for each VLAN. Home users typically use VLAN network segmentation to isolate vulnerable IoT devices from the main network, protecting PCs and NAS devices from intrusion.

Holding the reins of power remotely

The DS router app for mobile offers a wide range of features, including router setup, traffic monitoring, parental controls, creating guest networks and network management.

The WRX560 is available immediately in Europe.
