Definitive Technology presents column and centre speakers for Demand Series

Definitive Technology announced the latest additions to the Demand series of high performance pillar and centre speakers at the CES 2020, the latest addition to the Demand series.

The new D15 and D17 column speakers and the D5C centre speaker in Definitive Technology’s Demand Series not only deliver full, room-filling sound, but also look stylish. This makes them the perfect choice for enthusiasts looking for a high-quality listening experience. The D15, D17 and D5C feature a beautiful design and feature advanced materials such as carbon fibre woofers and aluminium dome tweeters. This ensures room-filling sound, smooth high-frequency reproduction and an accurate soundstage, and provides an unprecedented listening experience, as the manufacturer is proud to announce.

Familiar and new techniques

“In 2017, Definitive Technology introduced the first three bookshelf speakers in the Demand series. These were received with open arms in the market thanks to their elegant design and highly accurate sound reproduction. Since then, we have been busy designing two column speakers and one centre speaker. We used the original bookshelf speakers from the Demand series as a starting point,” said Michael Greco, category director Loudspeakers at Sound United. “We used the same craftsmanship and material quality to design and develop the line. Listeners benefit from well-known technologies such as 20/20 Wave Alignment Lens, BDSS and Linear Response Waveguide. But we’ve also added dual carbon fibre woofers and dual side passive radiators to the column speakers. This makes the speakers one of the smoothest, most accurate and powerful in their price range. The centre speaker is the perfect addition to our range for home cinema enthusiasts”.

D15 and D17

The Demand Series D15 and D17 column speakers feature a 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter with a 20/20 Wave Alignment Lens. According to Definitive Technology, this ensures more accurate sound reproduction by preventing unwanted diffraction from the corners of the front panel:

‘This allows listeners to enjoy a refined and balanced listening experience. Definitive Technology’s patented Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) midrange/woofer provides a large excursion and delivers an unprecedented level of midrange detail and more powerful bass when compared to competing drivers of the same size. What’s more, both the on-axis and off-axis frequency response are extended by a linear response waveguide, providing better dispersion for a more natural midrange sound and accurate reproduction’.

Pillars

Featuring a patented BDSS 5.25 and 6.5-inch midrange/woofer and made of mineral polymer, the column speakers offer ‘exceptional, powerful sound in the midrange’, according to the manufacturer. The column speakers are the first in the Demand series to feature twin 5.25 and 6.5-inch woofers made from carbon fibre and twin 8 and 10-inch side passive radiators. The new dual passive radiators provide extensive low-frequency reproduction that you would not expect from the speakers’ compact design. Definitive Technology has also added a large spider for improved linearity and a deep, powerful and pure bass response’.

Center

The manufacturer continues: “The D5C centre speaker is a perfect complement to the column and bookshelf speakers of the Demand series and provides a truly immersive home theater experience. The D5C features dual 5.25-inch mid-range drivers and an aluminium dome tweeter with Wave Alignment and Linear Response Waveguide for incredibly accurate and rich sound.

Industrial design

The Demand series features the leading industrial design for which Definitive Technology is known. The line has a fresh, modern look with a baffle of pearl-blasted aluminium and is therefore timeless and fits seamlessly into any interior. The craftsmanship is reflected in the details. Each cabinet has been carefully sanded, painted with five layers of high quality gloss paint and then polished to an almost mirror finish (level 6). This ensures that minimalist refinement and uncompromising quality go hand in hand. The acoustically transparent, magnetic loudspeaker grilles provide a natural, uncoloured sound and can be easily removed. The three new products in the Demand series are available in piano black and white, so that they fit into any listening environment, we read further in the press release announcing the newcomers.

The recommended retail prices for the new speakers in the Demand Series are as follows: D15: €1699 each, D17: €2499 each and D5C: €899 each. For more information about the Demand Series or Definitive Technology and its high quality audio offerings please visit https://nl.definitivetechnology.com/.
