Mains power is nowadays rather polluted with HF noise, the AudioQuest Niagara 3000 ‘low noise power distribution system’ offers a solution.
That mains power is polluted with all sorts of ‘rubbish’ should not come as a surprise in the year 2020. Switching power supplies, (pc’s, LED) and all sorts of radiation (3G, 4G, 5G, GSM… wifi…) – cause a lot of disturbances. So a good mains filter will always come in handy. The Niagara 3000 from AudioQuest is one such device, with a power distribution system. In other words: you will find a battery at the back of the device. Two of these are intended for high power; they can handle a peak load of up to 25 ms of 55 Amps. Even if the Niagara 3000 is connected to a 15 A fused group. Filters and security
The Audio Quest Niagara 3000 is actually the smaller and more affordable brother of the 5000 and 7000. You will therefore find the vast majority of the technology used in these devices. Such as Level-X linear noise dissipation, which according to the manufacturer guarantees the most consistent and broadband noise reduction achievable. And without the multi-node peaks found in many other AC power conditioners.
Consideration has also been given, for example, to overvoltage protection that protects your connected equipment against excessive mains voltage peaks. AudioQuest continues
It goes without saying that the Dutch AudioQuest has had to submit to the restrictions imposed by the government, we read in a press release from the manufacturer. A large part of the staff works from home. Fortunately, there are also some people working in Roosendaal, Netherlands. Among other things, they take care of shipments, but also the manufacture of custom cables. They work in shifts, keeping the required distance between people. However, it may take a little longer for your order to be processed in these difficult times. The Niagara 3000 is expected to be in stock from mid-May.

Vanmiddag is DHL langsgekomen en heeft mijn nieuwe Niagara 3000 afgeleverd. Direct haalde ik mijn Niagara 1000 van mijn set, en sloot de 3000 aan.
De Niagara 1000 is mij de afgelopen periode uitstekend bevallen. Ik kwam van een Furutech blok af, wat al goed was, maar de stap naar de 1000 was echt een grote verbetering. Echter had ik soms het gevoel dat mijn Mark Levinson 336 eindversterker iets afgeknepen werd, en niet helemaal ‘los’ kwam. De 336 is dan ook een beest, hij trekt standby al 200W en als hij op rustig niveau speelt meet ik meer dan 300W. Niet de gemiddelde eindversterker dus. Toen ik de Niagara aanschafte, had ik nog een NAD M22, die kon volledig uit de voeten met de 1000.
Daarom heb ik de afgelopen tijd met andere blokken gespeeld, onder andere een heel mooi Pink Faun die ik mocht lenen, waarvoor dank aan Triple M. Maar die was te donker, en haalde dat hele ‘cleane’ gevoel wat ik met de Niagara 1000 heb weer weg. Geen goede match met mijn set helaas. Toen de Niagara na twee weken proef weer aangesloten werd, was het meteen weer genieten. En dat gaf mij de doorslag dan toch de stap naar de 3000 te maken, al is die wat kostbaar.
En nu dus de 3000. De 3000 heeft alle voordelen van de 1000, maar dan nog beter. Niets geen zoemend geluid, zoals de hifi review schrijft, hij is muisstil, ronduit koud, en wat hij met het geluid doet is echt heel goed. De presentatie, die met de 1000 nog iets teveel ‘in your face’ is als je je speakers zoals ik met zilver bekabeld hebt, is met de 3000 weer helemaal zoals het hoort. De stage is breder, er zijn toch weer wat scherpe kantjes weg, en vooral het laag, het laag… het laag is dus echt weer een flinke stap verbeterd. Het lijkt alsof de 336 eindelijk echt ‘los’ komt en nu helemaal moeiteloos alles speelt. Het analoge karakter waar ik zo van hou bij de 336 is nu echt helemaal top.
Kortom, de Niagara 3000 is echt een geweldige aanwinst. De 1000 staat inmiddels te koop.
Ik kan deze ervaring van Arcee beamen.
Vroeger was ik altijd sceptische t.o.v. filters omdat ze hoorbaar de dynamiek knepen van de set, vooral inderdaad met zware versterkers. Ik had destijds de ML 334 en dat werkte ook niet. En om zo’n filter nou alleen op de front-end apparatuur te gebruiken vond ik ook wat jammer.
Sinds eergisteren heb ik een splinternieuwe Audiquest Niagara 5000 in mijn set, die ik mag terugbrengen als hij niet bevalt. De dealer (Audio Expert in Den Bosch) garandeerde mij al dat hij beslist zou bevallen en dat ik dat al gelijk nieuw uit de doos zou horen.
Ook de combinatie met mijn eindversterker (een Hegel H30) en speakers (Kef Blade) zou prima werken.
En het klopte wat er gezegd werd: gelijk duidelijk meer rust, wat vollere middentonen en details in de muziek horen die me nooit eerder waren opgevallen. Mijn FM-tuner, aangesloten op een grote eigen binnenhuis antenne op zolder klinkt nu nagenoeg ruisvrij.
Nu na 2 dagen is het filter en de nieuwe stroomkabel eraan (Audioquest Blizzard) verder ingespeeld en klinkt het nog verfijnder.
Ik ben dus heel tevreden over de aanschaf van het filter en de 14 outlets die hij mij biedt.
Aan Audio Expert heb ik al gemeld dat hij niet meer terug komt :-).
Kunnen jullie deze spullen ook een keer testen. Ik ben benieuwd of eindversterkers hier ook nog voldoende lucht kunnen krijgen.
