DBL has released a new phono preamplifier. The The Wand EQ is a special looking device with very neat housing made out of real wood.
DBL – which stands for Design Build Listen – is a manufacturer from New Zealand. They make very nice products there, including this new The Wand EQ phono preamplifier. Where EQ also an abbreviation for Emotional Quotient.
What at least stands out about the device is the housing made out of birch plywood. An sich not entirely strange, because it fits well with the TT14-4 turntable of the same brand. Moreover, according to the manufacturer ensures a good mechanical stability, while the whole remains lightweight.
MM and MC
Internally, you can find an ‘extremely quiet’ JFET circuit (according to DBL). The Wand EQ can handle both MM and MC cartridges, where the input impedance is adjustable in four steps (82, 100, 475 and 47000 Ohm). Furthermore, this phono preamplifier is not required in combination with the just mentioned turntable. Stand-alone with another model also works fine.
The Wand EQ from DBL costs €1285 in the separate version. It is also available as an upgrade for the TT14-4. Then you pay an amount of €3800 for the turntable and €1000 for The Wand EQ. Above image we found at the German importer of DBL, Input Audio.
