The new McIntosh MCD85 SACD/CD player features a USB input to which you can connect, for example, your computer as a source.
It is clear that the (SA)CD will not disappear from the audio-scene anytime soon. If only because many have built up a sizeable music collection over the past few decades in the form of the (usually) silver discs. A new SACD/CD player like the McIntosh MCD85 is therefore always welcome to unlock this collection for the human ear. In fact it is a CD player ánd DAC. The latter thanks to the USB input which supports PCM up to 384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256. You will also find a coax and optical digital input on it.
Dual laser
(SA) CDs can be read at double speed, using a buffer memory and advanced error correction plus tracking. The reading mechanism uses a twin-laser pickup, using different wavelengths optimized for CD and SACD.
The in-house McIntosh Power Control and Data connections make integration with other manufacturer’s components (as well as other brands) easy. Furthermore, both balanced and unbalanced outputs are provided.
The handcrafted unit costs £4995, pre-orders are already in place.
