Bang & Olufsen celebrates 40 years of Factory Records

Factory Records is without doubt a legendary label that enjoyed its heyday in the 1980s and 1990s. They are 40 years old, Bang & Olufsen is celebrating.

One of the characteristics of Factory Records are the (partly) very tight designs of the albums. Created by graphic designer Peter Saville, they are unforgettable gems that are instantly recognisable. Saville has designed album covers for a range of musical greats. Think New Order, Joy Division, Peter Gabriel, Wham! and many, many others. The designer himself has no (active) website, but there are several fan sites including this one (see screenshot at the top of this article).

Meanwhile Factory Records exists already 40 years, so it’s time for a celebration. That party is brightened up by a series of special and exclusive Bang & Olufsen Beoplay A9 wireless speakers, forty different ones in total are waiting for you.

Exclusive

It’s not surprising that Bang & Olufsen is paying attention to Factory Records. After all, both companies have (special) design at the top of their agenda. A more banal reason could also be that the Beoplay A9 has a large round surface, which lends itself perfectly to cover art from, for example, LPs.

Unfortunately, enthusiasts will have to be quick. Only 40 Factory Design A9s will be released, divided into four designs. In other words, only 10 speakers are available for each design. The special edition speakers are also only available in the UK, via the Selfridges Manchester Trafford, Selfridges Manchester Exchange and Selfridges London websites. A Beoplay A9 ‘Factory Records’ version has a price tag of €3500.
