Good (and even not so good) dedicated CD players are becoming increasingly difficult to find. That’s why it’s nice to see that at least Pro-Ject hasn’t forgotten fans of the (usually silver colored) shiny discs. According to the manufacturer, their new CD Box DS3 took the best options from its predecessors. Added is the Texas Instruments PCM1796 DAC. A solid aluminum chassis should create an excellent combination together with the Blue Tiger CD-80 drive. A trio of soft points isolates the drive from external vibrations, while a single hard joint dissipates high-frequency vibrations as caused by the laser’s rapid movements to the chassis. The Pro-Ject CD Box DS3 plays purely audio CDs that comply with the Red Book standard.
