Yamaha presents R-N2000A and NS-2000A

Yamaha is introduces the Hi-Fi 2000 Series at the Munich High End in the form of the R-N2000A and NS-2000A.

The Yamaha Corporation unveils its new Hi-Fi 2000 Series – the R-N2000A Network Receiver and the NS-2000A floorstanding Speaker System. With the full analog Hi-Fi technology of the Hi-Fi 5000 and 3000 series as their legacy, these new components, according to the manufacturer, ‘usher in the next generation of the digital age. Comfortably and easily enjoy a huge variety of music with true Hi-Fi quality in your own living room’.

Core values

‘The core values of Yamaha Audio-Tonal Balance, Dynamics, and Image-are reflected in the quest for True Sound, shaping the artist’s intentions to touch the listener. We are talking about a uniquely superior sound quality that has emerged from the fusion of two fundamental technologies-acoustics and electronics-a feat that only Yamaha could achieve, as it excels in everything related to sound and music. From the creation of musical instruments to professional audio equipment. The result is a profound musical experience that is so realistic that it feels like the artist is right in front of you, Yamaha announces.

R-N2000A

‘The R-N2000A Network Receiver lets you enjoy virtually any musical content, from streaming services to ultra-high-resolution sources, coming together in one, comprehensive entertainment center. with a variety of technologies derived from our flagship Hi-Fi amplifiers, as well as a complete package of features to enjoy all your favorite music sources and content, we have ensured that the R-N2000A offers the highest audio quality,’ said Yamaha.

Calibration

The R-N2000A is equipped with Yamaha’s own automatic calibration technology called YPAOTM (Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer). In order to reproduce the position of the performer and musical instruments as precisely as possible, and to capture the delicate nuances and atmosphere of the room, YPAO corrects for differences in perception of sound caused by influences on the acoustics of materials and physical distances from walls. In the words of the manufacturer, ‘It optimizes the sound in the listening environment with the utmost precision – essential for true Hi-Fi sound – and transforms the living room into the ideal listening room. The soundstage is further deepened by the use of large toroidal transformers, famously used by the top-of-the-line Yamaha amplifiers. The use of the ES9026PRO D/A converter from ESS Technologies ensures that the soundstage is accurately reproduced with a natural and spatial image and a sensation of openness’.

Dynamics

Rather than simply playing the sound louder, the R-N2000A manages to increase the sense of dynamics, Yamaha writes: ‘These dynamics powerfully convey the difference between dramatic silences and movement in music. To achieve this, we have effectively applied the concept of “Mechanical Grounding” derived from our top Hi-Fi models. The concept literally starts at the base, by mounting it firmly to the chassis. Then the same happens with the large heat sink, toroidal transformer, and block capacitors. This design prevents unwanted vibrations and results in a powerful and highly expressive response of the low frequencies and lets you really feel the bass’.

Tonal Balance

In order to reproduce all sonic elements and frequencies, from musical instruments to vocals at all pitches, as faithfully as possible, and to magnify the specific harmony in the music, both the amplification and power portions of the design are intentionally separated from ground. Yamaha says, ‘The perfectly symmetrical construction, including our proprietary “Floating and Balanced” power amplifier technology – which completely cancels out the effects of the smallest fluctuations in voltage and external ground noise – provides a superior signal-to-noise ratio and channel separation, and allows a remarkably expressive energy to be heard in the reproduction of all musical instruments’.

MusicCast

Because the R-N2000A is equipped with Yamaha’s MusicCast network system, the user has all the conveniences of modern listening to favorite music anywhere at home and from any source imaginable, such as lossless music at especially high quality and high resolution from services like Amazon Music HD, Apple Music, Spotify, and more. To pamper not only the ears but also the eyes, the R-N2000A features beautiful analog VU meters and a high-def OLED display that provide a visual indication of musical dynamics. This creates a unique blend are of modern digital and old-fashioned nostalgia. The high performance USB-DAC lets you, according to the manufacturer, ‘get the most out of your favorite hi-res audio sources, and the HDMI with ARC (Audio Return Channel) provides the best and most convenient connection to the TV’.

N-S2000A

With the creation of the NS-2000A, Yamaha says it has brought together its rich past of instrument building, including pianos, ‘with the latest technologies. Using their specific knowledge, technology and concept design gained from developing the top models, our new Hi-Fi speakers achieve the very highest level of sonic expression’.

Tonal Balance

‘As a famous instrument maker, Yamaha is very passionate about reproducing the sounds produced by musical instruments as faithfully as possible in the audio lines as well. To make this possible with the new N-S2000A, we drew on the design of our flagship models to achieve consistent tone color – or tonal balance – across the frequency spectrum. For each speaker unit, the NS-2000A uses the newly developed Harmonious Diaphragm, which consists of a mix of ZYLON and spruce. While ZYLON possesses excellent properties in terms of speed, internal dissipation and flexibility, spruce is the wood of choice for wing soundboards and essential for reproduction. ‘This blend ensures accurate and truthful tonal expression across the sound spectrum, allowing the harmony of the sound to speak for itself and the music to sound richer and more beautiful,’ we read in Yamaha’s press release.

Dynamics

It continues: ‘To optimize the enclosure for high dynamics, we applied state-of-the-art speaker design technology, using laser vibrometers, familiar to us from R&D in instrument building, and FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis. The baffle in the cabinet is optimally reinforced to ensure that LF response is rock solid, providing a secure and comfortable base for the music and capable of creating a huge soundstage’.

Acoustic Absorber

To recreate the ideal image of audio sources, Yamaha uses its own “Acoustic Absorber,” ‘a unique resonant tube that eliminates standing waves in the enclosure and minimizes the need to apply absorbent material. In this way, the realism of the music is not beaten to death, a danger that lurks in the application of sound-absorbing materials, and energy levels and dynamics are maintained. Furthermore, we have mounted two specially shaped tubes, called R.S. (Resonance Suppression) Chambers, behind the speaker diaphragms to eliminate unwanted resonances – again preventing excessive use of absorbing materials. By applying these Yamaha-patented technologies, the original music is vividly reproduced, with no negative effects on the minute signals of the music sources.’
