Metallica sells so much vinyl that they have taken a majority stake in American record company Furnace Records.
Furnace Records was founded in 1996 and is one of the largest record companies in the US. Metallica has always used the services of Furnace Records. The factory in turn ensured and continues to ensure that the band’s entire catalog is available in stores. Last year, Metallica released 900,000 vinyl records, of which 387,000 have now been sold. A great achievement, especially when you consider that no new albums have been released since 2016. At least for the band, the vinyl sales were reason enough to buy a majority stake in Furnace Records, which has since happened.
By the way, as for that “last released” album from 2016: that’s about to change. Namely, the brand new 72 Seasons will be released on April 14. And a sizable portion of that album will now be delivered on vinyl, we’re guessing.
