JBL is releasing a new version of its JBL Classic, with the addition MKII. So a reissue of a re-released classic, in fact.
JBL continues to “tinker” with the JBL100 Classic, resulting in a new a MkII version. The same is true, by the way, of the smaller offshoot in the form of the L82. In the new versions the drivers have been improved; both the woofer in the JBL 100 Classic MkII and the mid-bass driver in the L82 offer more linearity than their predecessors. The tweeter in both MkIIs has also been reworked, which JBL says should lead to improved performance again. Furthermore, things like the crossover have been modified so that they can now handle bi-wiring. The connectors have been given a “premium gold coating”.
Quadrex grille
The rest of the speakers are unchanged. Either: the retro-looking walnut veneer finish has remained and, of course, the characteristic 70’s Quadrex foam grille. With the latter, you can choose from orange, blue or black. Remains the price of both JBLs: the L100 Classic MkII costs €4500 and the L82 Classic MkII €2400.
At the time of writing, there is nothing on the manufacturer’s site about the MkII variants. However, on JBL’s Facebook page they can already be seen (see screenshot at the top of this article, with photos taken at the – how could it be otherwise – already past High End Munich).
