Rega reached fifty years, a milestone that should of course be celebrated; in this case very appropriately with the Planar 3 in the birthday edition.
The Rega Planar 3 50th Anniversary Edition – as the turntable is officially called – is packed with features “nicked” from more expensive models from the manufacturer’s range. For example, there is a choice of new elements, with the Exact MM cartridge fitted as factory standard. Special too is the Neo PSU Mk2 power supply that accompanies the 50-year-old ‘party player’. This power supply is – Rega reports – hand-tuned to bring the 24 Volt motor in the turntable to exactly the correct speed, and minimize unwanted vibrations. Remaining are the belt drive, the proprietary CNC-manufactured drive pulley, the RB330 tone arm and glass turntable. Pleasant: it is not a limited edition. The Planar 3 50th Anniversary Edition will be available all of 2023, orders can be placed until and through December of this year.
