Thorens is celebrating its 140th anniversary, and that’s too good a number to let go unnoticed. And so there is the TD 124 DD ‘Birthday Edition to’ add lustre to this milestone.
The anniversary version of the Thorens TD 124 DD is a (very) limited edition. This variant differs in a number of ways from the “standard” version introduced in 2020. For example, there is a new 2-layer turntable, with an extra 5 mm thick layer of copper on top. Furthermore, there is a special anniversary version of the Ortofon SPU 124 cartridge. This is a unique piece and only included with the limited anniversary version. In it, coils of pure silver are used and the case is made of classic Bakelite. Another highlight is the tone arm wiring, which has silver conductors.
Finishing
A final more immediately obvious difference of the Thorens TD 124 DD Anniversary Edition is the finishing. And we’re talking real wood veneer here, which includes a high-gloss lacquer on the plinth, also hand-polished. And oh yes: almost as a sidenote, an “anniversary label” is placed on each device.
