Bug fix for LG C2 and G2 televisions

The LG C2 and G2 from 2022 will undoubtedly be fine TVs, but they did have a problem: way too much local dimming in dark areas.

The LG 2022 televisions C2 and G2 had an awkward problem. Namely, dark areas were dimmed far too much locally. This led to such contrast differences that viewing was no longer pleasant. Specifically, this was caused by a bug in the so-called ABSL feature. Turning it off was the only option for many users, after which viewing became doable again. But that in turn led to significantly less dark areas in the picture and therefore a lower contrast value.

Update saves the day

There were some firmhacks available to deal with the problem, but as a customer you lost your warranty by applying those. Fortunately, there is now an official firmware update available for the 2022 LG C2 and G2 that brings ABSL back in line. Which will make your viewing enjoyable and optimal again. To be precise, it is firmware version 03.33.65. You can download it from this page and put it on a USB memory stick. Plug that into the TV and use the settings to update the device and you’re done.
