Canton releases the new Reference Series loudspeakers, consisting of a total of eight individual models that’ll offer a choice for many scenarios.
The new Canton Reference Series consists of a total of eight loudspeaker models. Specifically, it includes the Reference 1, Reference 2, Reference 3, Reference 5 and Reference 7 floor-standing peakers. In addition, the series also has the compact Reference 9 loudspeaker as well as the Reference Center and Reference Sub onboard. The Reference 1 is the flagship model.
Cabinet
Characteristic of the series is the modern looking rounded design. Naturally, extensive attention was also paid to the cabinet design. Canton says, ‘The intricate cabinet structure of the new Reference loudspeakers has been carefully designed to deliver a stunning sound experience while minimizing unwanted resonances. The clear benefit lies in the elegant presentation, with living space-friendly dimensions that will captivate both visually and sonically.‘ Advanced techniques should further ensure that vibrations are minimized as much as possible. Material versus technology
In announcing the new Reference series, Canton dives into the technical details: ‘To achieve the perfect balance between stiffness and weight, the BC membranes of the bass and midrange system transform 25% of the molecular structure of an aluminum cone into a ceramic structure, which is then refined with tungsten and other metal particles. The specially shaped black midrange ceramic cone in TCC technology further stabilizes the diaphragm, reducing unwanted resonances and distortions.‘
The high frequencies are produced by extremely light and rigid BC dome tweeters. Thereby, the special shape of the newly designed asymmetrical waveguide should optimize the radiation behavior. And that both in the crossover range and in the HF range above 15 kHz.
Frequency adaptability and more
Canton has thought carefully about every aspect of the new line of speakers. For example, there is an integrated midrange-high-frequency adjustability, allowing all floorstanding speakers to be tuned to the acoustics of the listening room. Furthermore, the Reference 9 2-way bookshelf speaker offers an option to fine-tune the high frequencies. Then there are the steel feet, CNC-machined and powder-coated. These ensure stability and also suppress unwanted vibrations. Also not to be forgotten is the 750 watt Class D amplifier in the Reference Subwoofer. This unit can produce bass up to (from, depending on how you look at it) 18 Hz
