The new Chinese FiiO FT5 is an open headphone that aims to compete with peers in that line of business.
Although open headphones are not everyone’s thing (or somewhat less appreciated by their immediate surroundings), there is a bevy of loyal enthusiasts. For them, the new FiiO FT5 headphones may be of interest. Apparently they have gotten a taste for it at the manufacturer, because not so long ago the just a little more pleasantly priced FT3 was also launched. In fact, the new FT5 has a price tag of $499. For that you get plenty of interesting things in return, including a 90 mm planar magnetic driver. According to the manufacturer, the FiOO FT5 is very sensitive and easy to drive. FiiO reports that this is due to the deployment of twenty neodymium magnets. According to them, this leads to a sensitivity of 96 dB/mW@1kHz.

According to its makers, the FiiO FT5 boasts extremely responsive dynamics, thanks to that just-mentioned large amount of individual magnets working in parallel. Included with the headphones themselves are a 1.5-meter cable, a 3.5mm jack, a 4.4mm balanced plug and an XLR-to-4.4mm adapter. And almost naturally, a leather storage case; choose further from leather or suede ear pads.
