For those in search of a high-end CD transport and DAC in one, essentially a CD player with advanced digital conversion, the Rotel Michi Q5 is an option worth considering.

The new Rotel Michi Q5 is labeled a Transport DAC because it not only serves as a CD transport but also functions as a standalone digital-to-analog converter. It comes equipped with coaxial and optical inputs, as well as USB and Ethernet, making it highly versatile. The DAC supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD up to DSD x4, while also offering full MQA decoding for those still using the format. Additionally, it carries the Roon Tested certification, ensuring seamless integration with Roon-based systems.

At the heart of the Michi Q5 is the ESS ES9028PRO DAC, which is known for its high-precision audio processing. The entire circuit design follows a fully balanced differential architecture, ensuring low noise and maximum detail retrieval for an optimal listening experience.

The CD transport itself features a top-loading mechanism, a design choice often preferred for better mechanical stability and reduced vibration. To ensure clean and isolated power delivery, the Q5 is equipped with two in-house developed toroidal transformers, providing separate power supplies for both the analog and digital sections. This separation helps minimize interference and improves overall performance.

The Rotel Michi Q5 will be available from March 2025 at a retail price of €5,999.
