Nakamichi announces the release of the world’s first Dolby Atmos soundbar with support for aptX HD, in the form of the Shockwafe Ultra 9.2 DTS:X.
To the already somewhat ‘ripened’ audiophile, the name Nakamichi will undoubtedly sound familiar. It was a manufacturer known – among other things – for excellent cassette decks. Nakamichi rose from the ashes and is now part of the Chinese holding company Nimble Holdings. And once again, it’s creating nice things, including the series of Shockwafe (really written with an “f”) soundbars. The Shockwafe Ultra 9.2 DTS:X is an eArc Dolby Atmos capable device. What makes this soundbar especially special is the support of Qualcomm’s aptX HD. It means you can stream high(er) quality sound via Bluetooth from your smartphone, for example. Provided, of course, that the source also can handle this codec.

Furthermore, a proprietary surround processing technology is provided which – Nakamichi promises – should ensure an immersive 360-degree sound experience. And finally, the name “soundbar” is actually somewhat derogatory. Because in fact this is a complete surround set with, in addition to the soundbar itself, two subwoofers and four surround speakers. The complete set has a price tag of $1900 dollars.
