MediaTek is manufacturer of an (HDMI) chip used by a lot of TV manufacturers. The most recent version is somewhat disappointing.
The Mediatek Pentonic 1000 is a chip that not only realizes multiple HDMI inputs, but actually forms the beating heart of a modern television. Decoding of video streams, integrated CPUs and GPUs and a host of other things make this SoC a virtually one-chip solution for everything needed. Not surprisingly, people always look with interest when MediaTek releases a new variant, since it is used by many tv-manufacturers. This year’s P1000 is a bit (very, for some) disappointing. Contrary to earlier expectations, the SoC appears to have only two HDMI 2.1 inputs. Of which many people have already lost one to HDMI ARC. The other two inputs only offer HDMI 2.0. In these days when more and more devices are fully HDMI 2.1 compatible (think game consoles and video streamers) still quite disappointing. Better next year, then?
