HBO Max has not only changed its name into Max, but also its rates. Or rather, several features have moved to a more expensive subscription tier.
That HBO Max is changing its name to Max, just a little over a year after the service launched, shouldn’t be news by now anymore. Starting this May, you will get a new app, undoubtedly named Max. What’s noticeable is that the subscription tiers have been changed. Features like 4K move from the “middle” to the most expensive subscription ($19.99 a month in the U.S., a hefty sum). Dolby Atmos also moves to this most expensive package. Max makes no further mention of how existing subscribers will be treated, and those who, for example, received a lifetime discount by signing up early. So keep a close eye on your bank statements in the coming months and check whether you are not unwittingly start paying (much) more for the services of the former HBO Max.
