Despite all the streaming hype going on, there is still a loyal fan base of Blu-ray enthusiasts. If only because they have built up a nice collection of discs over the years. The 15.5-pound Magnetar UDP900 meets these needs. The sturdy player has an equally sturdy power supply – based on a 60 watt toroidal transformer – on board. According to the manufacturer, this should ensure pure audio signals. As far as that is concerned, it seems to be okay anyway, as Magnetar has chosen the Sabre ES9038PRO as its DAC chip. As for audio out, you can choose from balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA. There is also a 7.1 output connection fest.
As for video, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are supported. Apart from Blu-Rays, it also effortlessly plays DVDs, CDs and SACDs. The Magnetar UDP900 costs €2500.
