Apple officially announced the coming tvOS 17, with interesting new features, at its already passed WWDC23 developer conference.
TvOS 17 is intended for Apple’s set-top boxes. Many of the apps for iPadOS (and iOS) can run on those as well. Interestingly, FaceTime is now supported too, using the camera from your iPhone as a webcam. Communicating on a big screen in the living room, with distant family and friends is a nice promise. On the audio side, it’s now possible to see at a glance if streaming is going on in Dolby Atmos. For enthusiasts, there is support for Dolby Vision 8.1.

Practical is also the Enhance Dialog mode, for more intelligible spoken word in video content. With a small catch: it only works in conjunction with a HomePod 2. For the more forgetful, the “Find my” feature for the Apple TV remote control will undoubtedly come in handy. Beyond that, there are all sorts of improvements to be found, which you can read more about here at Apple itself.
