The use of lamps in projectors will be banned within the EU from 2026; even replacement lamps will no longer be allowed to be sold.
We are guessing that the number of projectors in average European households will not be extremely large. Still, Brussels sees lamp projectors as environmentally polluting energy guzzlers. And especially the unhealthy mercury inside those bulbs is definitely killing them. And so the sale of lamp-based projectors will be banned from 2026 within the EU. Even replacement lamps may no longer be sold from then on. So if you still have such a type of projector in use, it is slowly becoming time to look for a replacement.
Be careful with sales
Given that new projectors are all equipped with LED or, if necessary, laser lighting, this will not be an insurmountable disaster for most home users. But it is wise to stay alert for “deals” in the years ahead. Such as projectors sold on eBay, marketplaces or at price stunters. These may be warehouse clearance consisting of lamp projectors. So it is better to be alert and ignore the ‘junk-to-be’.
