Optoma UHZ55 smart projector

The Optoma UHZ55 is the manufacturer’s first smart projector, sporting a brightness of 3,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2,500,000:1.

Although the projector specifications are fine on paper from the 4K-capable Optoma UHZ55, a side note. And that concerns the smart part of the device, based on Android. The big question is whether you should really welcome this trend – more and more smart-beamers are appearing on the market. Of course: it is convenient that your streaming service like Netflix, for example, is available directly from your projector. Just a network connection will do. On the other hand: it is not that much more complicated to connect even a smartphone to a projector via an HDMI adapter. And the key question with smart systems is how long the manufacturer will continue to release security updates.

30.000 hours maintenance-free

That said, on paper the new Optoma UHZ55 is a great device. Not least because of the already mentioned high brightness and contrast ratio. Watching with the lights on is no problem at all because of this, according to the manufacturer. HDR is also on board, supporting HDR10 and HLG. Furthermore, three HDMI connectors are on standby, one of which has eARC functionality. Under the hood, DLP technology and Optoma’s own DuraCore laser technology are used. All that should lead to 30,000 hours of maintenance-free viewing pleasure.

The Optoma UHZ55 will be released this month, priced at around $2540.
