Do you own a Samsung television and are an avid user of the Google Assistant installed on it? Then now the time has come to say goodbye.
Samsung has announced that as of March 1, it is over and out for Google Assistant on its televisions. On new models, the smart assistant is no longer present anyway, now it will also be deactivated on models from 2020 onwards. According to Samsung, it has to do with terms of use changed by Google which the electronics giant cannot accept for whatever reason. And so you may say goodbye to the smart assistant as a result. Should you want it, Alexa and Samsung’s own significantly lesser-known Bixby are still available as alternatives.
Smart TV issues
We have mentioned it before, but once again the question arises after an action like this: why on earth would you choose a smart TV? In fact, this is primarily a billboard for manufacturers and a method of collecting usage data. For you as a TV viewer, it adds surprisingly little in terms of functionality. The only certainty you have is, that in terms of updates and support, the average manufacturer will soon give up. Our advice: never let the choice for any TV – Samsung or other brand – depend on the smart part. And once you have the device in your home, avoid using it. If you insist on additional smart functionality, look at a very affordable Apple TV, for example. It’ll avoid a lot of irritations.
