Tonight – for Europeans – American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold hosts a VR concert for Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest. Is this the future?
How much longer will we have to travel all over the world to attend our favorite artist in a live concert? And conversely, how long will artists have to keep traveling around the globe to reach their fans? If it is up to Apple and Meta, not for very long anymore. Tonight at 1am GMT, Avenged Sevenfold hosts a VR concert. Especially suitable for Apple and Meta’s VR glasses. The procedure is that the artist(s) are first captured in high quality 3D video against a green screen. Then a virtual world is built around them using Unreal Engine. You may know the latter name from the gaming world, but this renowned engine is used for much more.
Buy a ticket and watch
Should you want to experience such a 3D concert, you first have to purchase a ticket via the AmazeVR app that is present in both aforementioned glasses. After buying, you will receive a free new track with access to the concert. By the way, it is not the first VR concert, that honor was given to Megan Thee Stallion in 2022. The key question, of course, is: will VR be the replacement for large-scale live concerts? For a significant part, that will depend on a much-needed sharp drop in VR glasses prices. But then the bear could just be loose: step into another world for a moment and experience a concert from the comfort of your armchair. Or go watch “together” in a movie theater, armed with VR glasses. For part of humanity, it will definitely be a godsend.
