The new Astell & Kern A&futura SE180 boasts a most curious feature: the DAC module is interchangeable.
The Astell & Kern A&futura SE180 features interchangeable DAC-modules. The idea behind this is that you choose a DAC that suits your personal sound preferences. And no fear: you are not required to purchase a DAC. When you purchase the player, you ‘get’ an 8-channel DAC in the form of the SEM1 ESS ES9038PRO as standard. In short: you can immediately start listening.
According to the manufacturer, an additional advantage of the physical separation of both parts (player and DAC) is that HF radiation from the ‘computer module’ is completely blocked.
User interface renewed
Furthermore, Astell & Kern let us know that the user interface of the A&futura SE180 feels more like that of an Android smartphone. And therefore users will find their way around faster.
Should you wish to upgrade the DAC module, the SEM2 Asahi Kasei AK4497EQ Dual DAC will become available first later this year. It is capable of playing music in a quality up to 32 bit / 768 kHz and native DSD up to DSD512.
The ‘ready to play’ Astell & Kern A&futura SE180 with the already mentioned DAC module included will cost you €1599, available from this month.
