DALI has announced a new headphone, the IO-12 equipped with the proprietary and patented SMC.
The new DALI IO-12 headphones feature the manufacturer’s patented SMC technology. Where SMC stands for Magnetic Compound magnet system (in French this will undoubtedly lead to the abbreviation SMC). You’ll also find this trick in DALI’s speakers, and now worldwide for the first time in headphones. SMC greatly reduces hysteresis (which causes unwanted resistance in the voice coil). And that, according to the French, ensures ultra-low distortion.
Wireless or wired, the choice is yours
You can use the DALI IO-12 wired or wirelessly. On the wireless side, Bluetooth provides the connection, supporting aptX as a codec. If you’re going to listen via cable, you can do so completely analog via a cord with a standard 3.5mm mini-jack plug attached. Or connect via a USB-C cable. In that case, the DAC in the headphones offers a maximum quality of 24 bit / 96 kHz. Furthermore, DALI has thought of ANC and a sturdy battery that offers up to 35 hours of playing time when fully charged.
The DALI IO-12 will be available from August this year, at a cost of €999.
