Sennheiser has introduced the HD505, a new and relatively reasonable priced option for fans of open-back headphones.
As a reminder, open-back headphones provide an exceptionally “open” sound signature but are less suited for social settings. Their open earcup design means your surroundings can hear your music too. However, for private listening sessions at home, many audiophiles find the soundstage of open-back headphones unparalleled. The new Sennheiser HD505 features custom 120-ohm drivers with a frequency range of 12 to 38,500 Hz. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is less than 0.2%. According to Sennheiser, the headphones are designed to mimic the triangular positioning of nearfield speakers.
The Sennheiser HD505 sports a headband wrapped in synthetic leather and weighs just 237 grams. It comes with a detachable 1.8-meter cable with a standard 3.5 mm jack and includes a 6.3 mm adapter in the box. The headphones are available now for $249.95.
