ATC SCM 19 V2

The British ATC is best known in the pro-audio world. The SCM 19 V2 is in fact a consumer model of an existing studio speaker. The fact that they have roots in the studio soon becomes clear after connecting it: this speaker doesn’t disguise anything. It’s a conduit. But a very tasty one. Staging, detail, rhythm… everything’s right. And for a very reasonable amount of money.

Revel Performa M126be

Like its predecessor, this Revel is a model that leaves little out. De Revel has its roots at Harman. Harman has changed hands by now, but know that Harman has done a lot of research concerning sound reproduction and acoustics. This knowledge can be found in the Revel brand. We’re instantly in love with this little, very fine monitor-speaker. What an openness, speed and coherence. Just lovely.

Grimm Audio SQM

A cable with an Approved Award? Yeah. this Grimm SQM. Cause, boy… they make fine cables at Grimm. The SQM stands out because… we didn’t notice it… We can’t hear the cable. We just hear music. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. “Just music”… There are tweaks of almost 500 euros that do considerably less than this XLR, 1 meter interlink.

Dion Audio AB300

Dion Audio is a small Dutch company that manufactures amplifiers for years now. It also makes speakers. Miquel Blauw has gained a lot of knowledge in the field of amplifier design. This is also evident in its latest model: the AB300 which, not surprisingly, delivers 300 watts per channel. We hear a lot of similarities with the – more expensive – Bryston 4B SST3. Pretty! And reason enough for an Alpha Approved Award.

Elac BS-U5

In our mass test bookshelfs we come across this beauty: the Elac BS-U5. A wonderful speaker. Yeah. It’s the most expensive one in the test. But ow… what a complete picture this one paints. It didn’t measure the best, but it does know how to steal our hearts. If you’re looking for an affordable bookshelf…. take a look at Elac. You’ll be amazed.

Ascendo Home Cinema

Yeah… home cinema. But very different. Ascendo is a German manufacturer of high-end cinema equipment. We visited the factory and were later able to test a 7.1 system. And yes, in our opinion, this is the best you can buy. Unprecedented dynamism, refinement… tuning… everything. It’s not just home cinema. It’s an experience. Brutal.

Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee

Affordable, Austrian audio. The Vienna Acoustics anniversary speaker offers everything that a music-lover is looking for:  speed, insight, impact, fun. And at a reasonable price: 1200 euros per pair. Be quick, because the circulation is limited. There are 500 pairs to sell. We saw a similar action at AVM with the M30… they were sold fast!
