The ZAR is a combination of 1 dynamic driver and 7 balanced armature units. 1 BA unit takes care of the high frequencies, 6 for the midrange and the dynamic driver is responsible for the lower end. Cable made of OFC with silver, braided. The whole thing looks luxurious. Fit is fine.
How does it sound?
These in-ears sound very full and rich. The high is ‘silky smooth’, piano (midrange) sounds excellent. We find the bass a little too heavy; the tuning accentuates the low end, which can be pleasant for fans of bass-heavy music. For our taste, low, midrange and high could have been more balanced. Also, it very much depends on the applied ear tips. We experience quite some differences in bass response between the different types. Please be aware of the impact that eartips have on the performance of IEM’s. KZ supplies many types and sizes and sometimes different materials: silicone, foam.
Overall, the KZ ZAR is an exceptionally fine-sounding in-ear set that can stand out against much higher-priced competitors.
