Measurements and conclusion
Contents
Of course, we took some measurements of the Cyrus 40 AMP. With and without the 40 PSU. To do this, we connected the amplifier to the Prism dScope III. The differences on the test bench are not large. But the difference in sound is obvious. This shows that not everything is visible through ‘standard’ measurements.
Measurements Cyrus 40 AMP
Without an external power supply, we see decent results in terms of noise floor and channel separation in itself. The Cyrus isn’t doing anything crazy, shall we say. A noise floor around -110 / -115 dB. Cyrus seems to apply little feedback. The frequency response is straight. Phase is 20% at 20 KHz and 0 degrees at 5 Hz. Distortion is 0.05% approximately. We measure 111 watts at 4 Ohms and 72 watts at 8 Ohms.

With the power supply attached, we see no crazy abnormalities. No extra power either frankly. We do see some noise disappear; the whole thing is a fraction quieter on the dScope. This is really a case: trust your ears!
