Contents
Another Brit… The Brits are dominating in this lineup. Cyrus we’ve also had a few times at the editorial office. And time after time, the brand manages to prove itself. The One HD is a hell of a device for the money. And Geoffrey’s latest review – the i7 XR – also was very positive.
And yes … again, the Cyrus strikes a chord with the authors. Yung says, “Very much detail and control without losing musicality.” And he thinks the low range is just right.
Martijn writes: “Bouncy bass (in a nice way), voice nicely forward, but little depth in the stereo image. Nice details in the voice, you can hear well the intention with which she sings. Festival feel.” Geoffrey finds it a bit dry and a bit less smooth. However, he does hear a fine kick and a lot of drive.
Compared to the Moon and Atoll, the stereo image is undoubtedly a bit more compact. This could certainly be due to the amount of feedback. Both the Moon and the Atoll use little feedback. The Cyrus uses a lot. That also affects the somewhat drier sound with more precision. So it is really what you are looking for in playback.
Yung and Martijn love it. Geoffrey likes a little more warmth and flow. That’s obvious. The audience is a little less charmed we notice in the poll at the end.
Measurements Cyrus Classic AMP
The Cyrus has a nice quiet power supply we notice. Along with the Advance and Arcam the best in the field. We also notice that Cyrus, like many in this test, uses quite a bit of feedback. The spectrum is pretty quiet. Even at 10 watts (if properly grounded, as with the Yamaha!). Distortion is then nicely low. Channel separation is top notch at 100dB. Just like the Rega and Arcam, by the way. We see two excellently equal channels, which is impressive considering the size of this amplifier. In the power measurement we see decent values, but also that the Cyrus is not really a fan of loads below 4 Ohms. Be careful with that. So don’t attach a hard to drive speaker to this amp.
