Rega Elicit MK5
Contents
Let’s get right to the point: the Rega is an impressive piece of electronics. The richness and huge imaging is what makes this amplifier so special. Martijn writes: “Imaging! Imaging! Imaging! The effects fly around your ears, her voice rises. Agile sounding bass. No trouble with the complex detailed parts, doesn’t compress, stays open sounding”
And Yung and Geoffrey are also particularly impressed. Yung also reports the great stereo image as well as the speed and coherence of this amp. Geoffrey is also impressed with the layering and reports that this amp performs best with Wende’s song. Your author agrees. This amp puts out a huge stereo image which draws the listener into the music.
The only issue is that the rhythm of the Rega lags slightly behind the top in this field. Think of the Arcam or Yamaha. They do that a little better than this Brit. But that should certainly not spoil the fun. Beware of cool sounding speakers or loud recordings, because that is immediately punished by the Rega. It is a transparent machine that lets you hear a lot!

Rega also uses quite a bit of feedback if the measurements are anything to go by. The noise floor is calm and quite low with -120dB at 1 watt and even 10dB lower at 10 watts. Channel separation is very good at 100 dB. This is in the top of the field. The channel equality is not 100%; we see a deviation of about half a dB. Now this is not audible we estimate (and have noticed in listening tests), since acoustics already do much more. The power measurement is excellent. Even at low inputs the distortion is very low. Power levels are also met. Neat.
