Teufel Motiv Go

We previously tested the Teufel Motiv Go when this newer speaker was introduced. Back then, we definately liked it! And we still do. It’s really incredible how big this speaker can play. Especially with Dynamore on. In fact, you can just leave it on: in this case processing just sounds better. No: it’s not for the purist, but let’s be honest: that’s not the target group for bluetooth speakers. In bluetooth speakers there is always processing, because otherwise it is impossible to get a large spectrum out of a compact speaker.

The Motiv Go is a very compact, complete speaker. Pairing is easy by pressing the bluetooth pairing button on the side. On top of the speaker you will find the rest of the controls.

Charging is done with the included charger. Unfortunately it is not usb-c, which we would have liked, since that is now the standard. Now you have a separate charger that you can also lose in a drawer or on the road.

All in all, we think the Motiv Go is a very nice speaker that is also very portable. It sounds much better than you think…. do not underestimate this compact speaker.

Model Teufel Motiv Go
Inputs Bluetooth (5.0 AptX), aux
Phone charging port No
Charger Adapter included (jack)
Price 249 Euro

Teufel Rockster Cross

Looking for a size bigger? Then the Rockster Cross might be an option. Not as slim and fashionable as the Motiv Go, but it does play a beat bigger and can also play louder without distortion.

What’s nice is that it comes with a shoulder strap. It simply sits in the handles and is easy to detach. As a bonus, it is also splashproof…. so it can go in the shower, should you like that.

The tuning is a bit popular, but that goes with the target audience for this portable speaker. The bass is round and strong, the treble is open and clear, but the midrange is a little too relaxed… a little smiley face tune so to say. That sounds good with hip-hop, rap and house. But less so with regular pop and rock.

The operation of the Rockster Cross is simple, just like the rest of the speakers. On top is the main control. And at the back we see off/on/dynamore and the buttons for pairing. We also see an additional “link” button. With this, a second Rockster Cross can be paired. Then you have a stereo pair! Nice bonus, but we estimate that not many people will use that.

All in all for 349 Euros you get a fine speaker in the house. Although we think that for 20 euros more there is a better option… in any case a model that better suits our ‘audio ears’.

Phone charging port Yes, USB

Price 349 Euro

Teufel Boomster

What a cool little speaker this is! It just makes us very happy. In white, the Boomster looks very sleek and even a bit chic. On top is a handy handle to easily carry it from A to B. It is not a model for the road by the way. There the Cross fits better. The feel is also nice and solid … that reassures.

The sound is clearly more open and neutral than the Rockster Cross which is more geared towards the youth. Nothing wrong with that, but the Boomster is more of a model that suits us ‘audio people’. This is incredibly clear when we switch from the Rockster Cross to the Boomster in one track…. suddenly the music opens up. Bizarre. It also shows how quickly you get used to a certain sound…. dangerous.

What is really nice about this Boomster, is that it also has a built-in FM radio (yes, old-fashioned, but very handy on vacations). So it’s easy to follow the Tour de France! But if you want it more modern: bluetooth is also possible (AptX) or you can plug in a jack cable to use another source.

The only thing we miss with the Boomster is a battery indicator. We can’t see anywhere how long we have left. Perhaps we are blind or our phone is too old…. but okay. Perhaps you know? Let us know in the comments.

Inputs Bluetooth (5.0, AptX), FM, Aux
Phone charging port Yes, USB
Charger Adapter included (jack)

Teufel Rockster Air

Would you like to sing or sing along too? Well… you can with the Rockster Air! Seriously… this is a kind of PA system with a built-in microphone amplifier. Very funny of course.

This speaker is really made for power. The thing can simply play unbelievably loud. And honestly… it is surprisingly good. It would not be out of place in a larger student room. Especially considering the fact that they can also be linked as a stereo pair with an XLR cable, and multiple inputs are possible. Because the Rockster Air not only accepts Bluetooth, but also three analogue sources: XLR, jack and minijack. That is switchable at the back.

On top are the volume and tone controls of the sources. This is simply done with handy rotary knobs. Fortunately, the whole thing can be covered with a cap; so a glass of beer cannot accidentally fall over it…. not an unthinkable scenario for the Teufel Rockster Air.

The reproduction is big, solid and powerful. With the tone controls, a fine balance can be found. We have the bass a little reduced and the treble a tad higher. But it will depend on the space and placement what works for you. The nice thing is: it can be done with this speaker.

The Rockster Air is not really portable. Yes, you can move it. And yes: it has a (lead) battery (up to 30 hours!), but it is large and quite heavy. In short: not really a speaker to take on vacation. But it is a model that we can see at a party… especially in stereo pair! A fun and daring product from Teufel!

Model Teufel Rockster Air
Inputs / Outputs Bluetooth (AptX), 3 x analogue in Microphone input, XLR output
Phone charging port No
Charger 230 volts, lead-acid battery
Price 599 Euro

Conclusion

What funny models from Teufel! Are you looking for compact? Then the Motiv Go is a good choice. Something bigger? Then we would go for the Boomster. Want a party speaker that can also last? The Rockster Air is your speaker... Very interesting model, even as a system in a student room, although the neighbours would be less pleased.
