The Acoustic Energy 520 speakers will appeal to fans of big floorstanders and powerful bass. As a metal fan, this one is not for you, but as a lover of large orchestral works it is. The bass is mostly lush without getting bonkers or wooly, but it does not have the kind of kick that is desired with dance or metal.
They are easy to drive due to their high sensitivity and don’t ask much from the amplifier. A good amp with lots of grip does ensure better results. Clean watts are more important than many watts: quality over quantity and that is immediately audible. Exotic equipment is not necessary, integrated amplifiers in the price range between 1500 and 4000 Euro are adequate partners.
