Acoustic Energy AE509

We put the AE509 in the exact same place as our bookshelves and they perform excellent. We use a traditional triangle with 2.5 meters between the speakers and 3 meters to the listening chair. That way, voices are nicely in the middle and the soundstage is stable. Put them at least 50cm from the wall so that the bass is tight. This applies to almost every speaker on the market. There are some models of Klipsch and Audio Note, among others, that should be in the corner, but those are rather scarce .

The Acoustic Energy AE509 is powered by the reference set below:

  • Benchmark Media Systems AHB2
  • Benchmark Media Systems HPA4
  • Benchmark Media Systems DAC 3B
  • Nad M50

We played many CDs, streamed Tidal and Qobuz via Roon, and played high-res files via USB. The amazing Chord Ttoby replaced the AHB2 for a while and that was pure magic. These floorstanders are not that difficult to control. Still, the watts should have enough quality and control to keep the drivers under control. At least if you like a tight and fast bass.
