We use the Dali Menuet with our second system next to our television. We place them on a low piece of furniture (45cm) and use our trusty IsoAcoustics Aperta’s with the DALI’s to decouple them. That also gives another 10cm of extra height. That way, when we sink down on the couch, the tweeters will be at ear height. The Menuets are two meters apart and are only 20cm from the wall.
We play music streamed from Tida, use Roon (Tidal Hifi, cd-rips, MQA), use our cd-player CDs and listen to Radio Paradise (recommended) and of course watch some television. With the latter you immediately notice the excellent intelligibility and the high detailing. At the moment we are in a bit of a ‘Game of Thrones’ period and both the quiet conversations and the hectic battles are clearly coming through. So no complaints when used for some Netflix.Â
The Dali Menuet SE replaces our Cabasse Surf monitors in the system below:
- Keces E40
- Denafrips Ares II
- Nad M50
- IsoAcoustics Aperta
- Wiring: Qed, Supra, Grimm
Dali Speakers are traditionally set up straight ahead but we find that a bit unnatural and that’s why we turn them in, just for the visual aspect. Sorry Dali! Dali claims a frequency range from 59 to 25000Hz and sensitivity is around 86db (4ohm). However, we had no trouble to control these little ones properly with the 40 watts from our Keces amplifier. This amplifier, which partly operates in class A, was also the perfect partner for the Menuet SE.
Sound
Transparent, open and fast are the first scribbles we can decipher on our notes. They also play, like the Oberon 1, bigger than they really are. The bass is of course not very deep but is fast and punchy. The soundstage is very wide and imaging is fine. After listening a bit longer you notice that you are really drawn into the music by these little speakers. That’s because vocals come through very well and the ow so important mid-area is very well done. There is a lot of insight and just because they are so small they ‘disappear’ completely. You don’t have the feeling that the sound comes from the speakers themselves. In our room the tweeter sounded a bit on the bright side but it didn’t get sharp.
