Of course we also put the Definitive Technology D15 in front of our measuring microphone. The distotion is pretty clean. We see a calm behaviour with a very even distributed distortion patern. In the bass the D15 already starts very low. And that behavior continues neatly. In the class of the Definitive Technology D15 – say about 3000 euros per set – these are average measurements.
What we do find striking is the dip in the midrange – between 1000 and 2500 Hz – in the off-axis measurement. There isn’t one right out front. That ‘phase plug’ does something, but it’s important to be careful when using toe-in. Play with that, because it has quite an impact on the playback, we can see (and hear!). By the way, the midrange remains a bit ‘tame’.
