    Conclusion

In recent years a lot of excellent, affordable monitors have been made. So many, in fact, that we're running out of time to test them all. Still, we're glad we had the Elac Carina BS243.4 in our listening room for a while because it's one of the better ones in its price range. It is a monitor that sounds sufficiently open and detailed without becoming artificial. In addition, it is also a very nice speaker that is easy to place. A few years ago we especially found fresh sounding speakers in this price segment. Now, we see and hear more and more models that are somewhat rounder and fuller sounding. And yes: the Elac Carina BS243.4 definately falls in this category. If you want to relax and just listen to your favorite music, you will love the Elac. Well done Mr. Jones!

The Elac Carina BS243.4 is a loudspeaker that performs well in normal living spaces and does not suffer from reflections or other conditions (advantage of a ribbon!). In other words, it is easy to place without too much hassle. In our opinion, it is best combined with a fast, powerful amplifier to perform optimally. With its refined tweeter and pretty generous low profile, this is a loudspeaker that allows long listening sessions without listening fatigue.

    Compare

We exchange a few differences with our Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee. The bass of the Vienna’s is a bit faster and punchier than that of the Elacs. The Elacs on the other hand seem to go a bit deeper and have a bit more body in the middle layer, especially when they are directly on the stands.

The Vienna is also a fresher speaker compared to the milder, rounder Elac. The Vienna spits and splashes more and you have to love that. The stereo image is closer to the Vienna and therefore plays a bit smaller, more compact
