Hello?…Hello? Yes, sorry, I have to wait for my earphones to connect…hello? [disconnected] Hello? …

For those who ever make calls with wireless in-ears, this type of situation will be familiar. Bluetooth earbuds are very handy but still sometimes fall short in connection and sound quality. Denmark-based Epos specializes in headsets for professional applications; emergency call centers for police and ambulance, air traffic control, call centers and service desks. Epos manufactures headsets with microphone that are meant to be used head for hours  and ensure that the user can hear everything well and still not get fatigued while remaining intelligible. We get an entry-level model in for testing and we’re actually curious.

“Roger, copy that”

You really don’t have to be an air traffic controller to liken this category of headsets. If you work in a large open space with lots pf co-workers, separated only by a wall or – more modern – a divider of moss and sedum, it is nice if 1) you are not disturbed by noise from the environment and 2) your conversation partners in an online call hear what you have to say and not your colleague’s lunch order. Or, imagine being in a hip co-working-oriented coffee shop; a busy cafeteria while you wait for the kids to finish swimming lessons. When we think about it, the possibilities are limitless!

The EPOS story

Until 2020, the EPOS brand existed as Sennheiser Communications, a partnership between Sennheiser and Denmark’s Demant, active in medical hearing aids since 1904. In 2020, the business operations were split, Sennheiser and EPOS going separate ways again; the latter brand focuses on “Enterprise” and “Gaming”.
