Teufel Raumfeld Stereo L and Stereo M
Contents
Those looking for a “real” speaker to play with immediately come to the Stereo M and Stereo L. It says Teufel on the front, but we still know these models as a Raumfeld speaker. We mention it in the video; Raumfeld was, until a few years back, a separate company that Teufel partnered with. Now Teufel has incorporated it and this series will be marketed as Teufel – Powered by Raufeld . So the technology comes from Raufeld.
We do love these kind of products. Take a good speaker, put in an amplifier and a streamer and you’re done. Can’t go wrong. We also see it in brands like DALI with their new active line and for example KEF with the LS50 and LSX. Or what about System Audio with the WISA speakers or Buchard…. we will be looking at these pretty soon as well.
Equal construction
The construction of the Stereo L and Stereo M are the same. The cabinet is made of thick MDF and feels – for the price range – fine. The finish is also definitely neat. At the top of the cabinet we see a coaxial unit with a 25mm tweeter and a 13cm midrange. Underneath is either one 15cm woofer, or three 15cm woofers. Both speakers work with a bass reflex system to give the bass a boost.
What is also similar is the number and type of connections. Both speakers have built-in Wifi (b/g/n/ac) and Ethernet to connect to the network (just like the all-in-one One M and One S). We also see bluetooth and a line input in the form of cinch plugs. To finish it off there is a USB port to play files directly. The only thing missing is probably a digital coax / optical input. Or HDMI to connect a TV directly. The Ultima 40 Active does have that. But no: it doesn’t sound as good as this Raufeld.
The power available, of course, differs. The Stereo L has 280 watts peak available, the Stereo M has 95 watts peak to play with. Both have a class D amplifier built in.
The Sound
The signature is obviously the same, given that they have a similar build. However, we do hear that the Stereo L – logically given its size – offers a little more body . However, also the high frequencies and the stereo image opens up a bit more compared to the Stereo M. And we did not expect that. Perhaps the extra power the ‘L’ has, helps. Now the Stereo M also has to work a little harder in our room, so it is not quite a fair fight.
We find the signature relaxed and convivial. It’s a lovely sounding speaker that will work just fine in a lot of rooms. Nothing is turned on or put down too analytically. This has the advantage that bad recordings can also be played just fine; something that many consumers in this class will appreciate. In addition, a coaxial unit has the advantage that the stereo image is usually large and stable. And this is no different; this duo is doing just fine in this class.
Realize that the Stereo M costs about 900 euros and the Stereo L 1800 euros. Per pair …. right. An all-in-one system for 900 or 1800 euros…. We think that’s quite a good deal when we realize that nothing else is needed.
