Teufel Raumfeld One S and One M
Contents
Then we come to the One M and One S. Of these two, the One M is surely the most interesting. Also considering the price and its place in the market. The One M is simply a beast of a speaker. Its direct competitor is the Sonos Five… and yes … that may be nicer to look at; sound-wise we do not find it a competitor. With the One S this is different, because the price is just a bit too high. The One S normally costs 249 and that is more expensive than the Sonos One. In that segment, Sonos performs very well with this small speaker, so this is a tough one….
Connectivity
This is really a strength of this system. Because these small speakers also have wifi, Ethernet, line input, bluetooth and USB. Not many competitors can say that. Especially bluetooth will appeal to the younger user because it just works very easily and nowadays it sounds good enough. We have passed the time of crackling compression and artifacts. Bluetooth is not really an option for a purist – and yes… flac and lossless streaming certainly sounds better – but for many users it is a quick and easy method to play and share music. In short: we think it’s a valuable addition.
Sound
The signature sound of these speakers is in some ways similar to the Stereo L and Stereo M. However, these speakers do not have the same coaxial unit – though they do have a coaxial configuration – and the One S sounds a bit too bare for our tastes. We might have liked to find Dynamore on the One S. The One M does have that, and while we’re not always fans of DSPs, this is a case where it works. It just sounds bigger and richer. And that, in an all-in-one speaker, is sometimes just nice.
We certainly think the One M is a good and fine product. It sounds rich, generous, fine and detailed enough to be enjoyable to listen to. Is it a replacement for a main system? No: of course not. But that’s what the Teufel Stereo L and M are for, too. Right? Would you still like to start with this speaker and later create a larger stereo image: then a stereo pair might be an option. Although we would rather go for a Stereo L in that case.
