With pain in our hearts we said goodbye to our beloved Audiovector QR1’s but that’s how it goes in this hobby. They have been replaced by the great Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee (1200 euros), our new reference in the price range up to 1500 euros. This limited edition (500 pieces) is a very fast and detailed speaker with lots of punch. For a small to medium space, this is a fantastic speaker. When we first heard them, we knew they would have to stay.

The Haydns don’t have the same refinement as the Golds and don’t go as deep but counter as said with speed and play a bit tighter. The soundstage is almost as wide but a bit less deep with the Vienna’s. Detailing is on the same level but the Vienna’s tweeter is a bit more direct, so they sometimes bite a bit more on lesser tracks. The Gold 100 is clearly the more mature, distinguished speaker of the two.

Our Atc Scm19 V2 monitors (2800 euro) are a lot more expensive and bring even more openness, especially in the midrange. They are also faster and even more insightful than the Gold 100. And so they should be. In terms of refinement and airiness the ATC’s have it by a nose lenght. The Gold 100 sounds a lot fuller and rounder though compared to the more linear and livelier Atc’s. Both can fill a large room well but with the ATC’s disappear more easily.

For whom?

This is a loudspeaker that we can easily recommend and to almost everyone. It is one of the most sophisticated loudspeakers in its price range and the rest of the reproduction is on par. Those looking for a fast, analytical speaker should look elsewhere, but those who want to enjoy their music will find a loyal friend in this loudspeaker. This is also the ideal speaker to place in a livelier room because it refuses to sound sharp and harsh.

Conclusion

The Monitor Audio Gold 100 5G is one of the most coherent speakers in its price range. It is completely balanced and sounds great.

The treble is transparent, the middle is quite open and refined and the low-end has punch and balls. It also looks very modern and is build to perfection.

To get the best out of this speaker you do have to work for it. This monitor needs high quality amplification to perform optimally. It also needs enough space to fully come into its own. If all is well however you can get really close to the Platinum and that for a very competitive price. With the Monitor Audio Gold 100 5G you really are going for gold!
