Measurements and conclusion

We measured the Monitor Audio Platinum 200 Gen3 through our Illusonic software. We also did an impedance measurement on our Sourcetronic LCR. The response and distortion was measured on- / off-axis and on the tweeter or midrange. This to map the differences.
Response, midrange – straight
Response, tweeter – straight
Response, midrange – off axis
Impedance and phase
What we see is that at 1 meter, the tweeter and midrange are still somewhat in each other’s way. That’s not crazy. We see that more often with ribbons. The measurement on the tweeter or midrange is not very different. Off axis it is already a lot less. We also recommend not using too much toe-in. A little is enough for good focus.
The response is pretty straight, which we like. It’s also audible: the Platinum’s balance is particularly pleasing for those not looking for a fair, but insightful, balanced reproduction.
Distortion is low. In particular, the midrange is particularly clean shows our measurement. The lowest point is below -70dB, which is around 0.02%. Insane. There are amplifiers that don’t manage that. Overall we see that everything is under -55dB and most is even under -60dB (0.1%). Neat!
Impedance is friendly. No deep dips. The minimum is 4 Ohms, which Monitor Audio has specified as nominal. We see the impedance at the ribbon rising a bit, which is not crazy.
you did a disservice to these speakers you should have never wired them single wired there’s a reason why there’s four binding posts they sound much more open and three-dimensional when they’re by word you never ever single wire speakers that are designed to be by wired with a stereo pair and jumpers they will never be as open sounding try it you’ll see.
Ok…
Wow,really nice review! I am really interested would the Platinum 100 3g get the same high scores😌
Probably. It is a very decent speaker.
