Plixir is a brand from Singapore that has focused entirely on “power”. They make filters, power supplies and cables. All with a focus on delivering clean power. We spoke with James Soh at the High End. An interesting conversation about an interesting product. We now look at this ‘fully balanced’ power supply: the Plixir Statement.
We’ve had some stuff from Plixir in the listening room before. Among them is a power conditioner. However, this is our first time testing a power supply from them. And why not go straight to the most luxurious version, right?
The Plixir Statement comes in a few versions where you can choose from voltages of 5, 6, 12, 15 and 19 volts DC. Plugs come in various sizes: 2.1/2.1, 2.5/2.5 and 2.1/2.5mm. The price is around 1495 Euro. Our 5 and 12 volt Statement was supplied by Audio Essence.
Balanced power
The heart of this Plixir Statement is obviously the toroidal transformer. This is completely custom designed and made for Plixir. The supplier is Noratel; no stranger to the world of transformers.
What is striking is how thick and heavy this toroidal transformer is. And how incredibly beautifully it is made: everything shielded, well damped…. beautifully done!
Looking further, we can indeed see a balanced construction at the outputs. And a series of capacitors to buffer and also to remove noise. About the particular combinations of grounding – star-ground and ground plane – we can’t say much.
Finish
The cabinet itself is sleek and nicely made. We see no sharp edges, nice, damping feet and decent connections at the back. In short: first-rate work. But let’s be honest: for 1495 Euros it should be.
Don’t mean to sound nerdy, but i’m going to place my 2 plixir and 2 Sboosters on a shelve and was wondering about vibrations, should i place say a rubber mat under each unit or use mini spikes so that the vibrations if any dissipate through the wood?
Nope. Its fine!
